Show Aged Cedar City Church Worker Dies at 9 1 , Jane Rountree Thorley, '9C died Wednesday afternoon of causes Incident to age. She was born Mar. 11, 1868, In New Zealand, a daughter of Charles Watson and Hannah Mala Parks Rountree, and was one of a family of seven girls. At a very young age she heard the gospel preached by the LDS Missionaries In New Zealand and decided to join the church, although al-though It was against her parents' par-ents' wishes. She was baptized on Christmas day, 1883 at the age of 15, and taught Sunday School and was secretary of the Relief Society shortly after her baptism. At the age of 17 she left her native land and her family and came alone to Utah for her religion relig-ion which always meant so much to her. She was active In church work In Salt Lake City and work-1 ed in many of the business establishments es-tablishments there. She attend-1 ed the dedication of the Salt Lake temple on April 6, 1893. and was married to Thomas A. Thorley Thor-ley in the temple on Oct. 18. They moved to Cedar City and most of her life has ben spent here, where she was always active In church work. She is survived by five sons, Alldrldge R., William R., Cedar City; Lester, R., Escondido, Calif.; Melvin R., LaCanada, Calif., and Thomas J. Long Beach, Calif. Also Al-so surviving are 12 grandchildren, grandchil-dren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. In the First Ward chapel. |
