Show Annual Report Of Audit Heard by Board Several bids were accepted at the meeting of the Iron County School Board at its meeting Monday, Mon-day, and a report of the annual audit was heard, according to Superintendent Ianthus Wright. In addition Jame C. Sand berg was named to fill the unexpired term of Leo Larson. (See separate separ-ate report). Sargent Supreme Dairy was awarded the contract to supply milk for the school lunch program pro-gram during the coming school year. Sargent's bid of 5 cents for a half pint was the low bid submitted. Although a call for bids had been made for the removal of two homes in Parowan where the new Parowan Elementary school is to be located, no bids were submitted to the board. A new call will be made in the near future, the superintendent indicated. indi-cated. The Newcastle Ward was the only bidder on the purchase of the old Newcastle school. A bid of $50 made by the ward, was. accepted by the board. A good share of the time was spent in reviewing a report of the annual audit Richard South-wick South-wick of the Browning, Southwlck & Dye firm of Salt Lake City met with the board to make the re-pori. re-pori. The audit indicated that the school district was in good financial finan-cial condition, but a few minor suggestions for improvements were made by Mr. Southwlck. Suggestions included better control of physical assets and the authorization of an additional addition-al person to handle money matters mat-ters in the school board office. At the present time only the clerk, Howard Dalley, Is authorized author-ized to work with the financial system. Board also approved matching funds from Stanford University to brine in a ctoud of resource people to assist in the planning of the proposed new high schools In the county. Details of the Iron County teacher's Institute, to be held Aug. 24, 25, 26 and 27 were discussed dis-cussed and board members were asked by the superintendent to attend as many sessions as possible. pos-sible. Board authorized the superintendent superin-tendent to work out a new system of transportation fdr students in the Beryl area. Long waits and delays were prevelant last year and it Is hoped that a more feasible fea-sible plan can be worked out. A group from the Escalante Valley had previously recommended to the board that some action in this matter he taken. |
