Show Iron County, Cedar City Taxpayers To Ballot on Important Bond Issues Two bond elections of vital Importance to the people of Iron County and particularly Cedar City, will be conducted con-ducted Tuesday, Aug. 25. The elections are not only important im-portant from the standpoint of money involved but also from the standpoint of services that funds from such bonds would provide for the citizens of the city and county. In spite of the importance of the issue little interest seems to have been shown to date in either of the two issues. is-sues. Perhaps interest will increase between now and election elec-tion day since both the Cedar City Council and the Board of Iron County Commissioners are planning activities to acquaint ac-quaint peoph' with the problems Involved. One of the bond elections Is to determine whether or not the people will approve the issuance of $750,000 in general obligation bonds, j provide funds for the erec'ion of a new 60-bed county hospltul in Cedar City. Such a hospital, it is estimated would cost approximately a million and a half dollars. However, a federal appropriation is available which would provide he additional funds needed for the facility. The present hospital, which over the years has been of tremendous tre-mendous value to the people of Iron County, has become entirely Inadequate to serve the present population. Modernization and expansion of the hospital is greatly needed, and it Is to meet this need that the county com- mlssioners have decided to erect a. completely new and modern hospital, on a more expansive site where adequate parking and other service facilities can be provided, pro-vided, if the people of the county approve such an undertaking through their vote on the bond issue. The site for such a hospital, hospi-tal, If it is built, has already been selected, and is located In the extreme southeast area of the Cedar City limits. A brochure explaining the needs, the costs, and other details, de-tails, will be distributed to all taxpayers early next week, in order or-der that all voters may be fully informed on the question before they go to the polls. The second bond Issue Involves only Cedar City people, since it Is to provide for an increased culinary cul-inary water supply for the city. The taxpayers are asked to approve ap-prove a $600,000 bo.-'d issue to raise funds for the expansion the city water system. Principal item of the project would be piping of water from the City owned well at Qultchl-pah, Qultchl-pah, into the city system. However, How-ever, addition of this supply, together to-gether with the growth of the city, makes Improvements In the present distribution system nee-essary. nee-essary. An additional storage tank would be needed at the location lo-cation of the present tanks out south of town to handle the increased in-creased flow of water. Also to provide proper distribution and pressures a new storage tank will be necessary in the northwest section of the city. Also some new pipelines will need to be laid within the limits of the city. As a means of outlining the need for the water supply increase, in-crease, the plans for improvements improve-ments and the cost of providing such a service, a public meeting has been called for 8 p.m. Tuesday, Tues-day, Aug. 18, at El Escalante Hotel. Ho-tel. Everyone Interested is invited invit-ed to attend. Since both issues are general obligation issues, only residents who have paid a property tax in the county or city, as the case r"iy be, will be eligible to vote. The two elections will be held simultaneously in Cedar City, not only on the same day but at the same polling places. Residents Resi-dents residing east of Main Street will ballot at the City and County Building, and those residing re-siding on the west side of Main Street at the College of Southern Utah fieldhouse.
