Show Junior Legion Takes Fourth Place In State Tourney at Pleasant Grove Cedar City Junior Legion baseball base-ball team placed fourth in the state tournament conducted at Pleasant Grove last week. Holiday Holi-day of Salt Lake City took championship cham-pionship honors in the event and will represent the state In the tournament in California this week. As reported last week the Cedar Ce-dar City team won its opening battle against Logan by a score of 10 to 5, but dropped its second game of the 10- team tourney to Ogden by a score of 14 to 6. Calvin Hair was the starter for Cedar In this victory and three men shared the mound duties. Lory Misel came in In the second and pitched for two and two-thirds innings, with Steve Cahoon finishing the game. After a one to one first inning Cedar exploded for 10 runs In the second frame on only five hits and nine of the tallies were scor ed after two men had been retired. re-tired. A double by Leigh Rosenberg Rosen-berg drove in three runs and he led the squad In RBI's for the game with a total of four. Sam Chamberlain had a perfect per-fect day at the plate with three hits in three official trips. He had two walks and scored four runs and was credited with two runs batted in. Cahoon was next In line with three hits in five trips and Rosenberg forced In four runs on two hits, including a double. Fleasant Grove was held to seven hits. Cedar City collected a total of 12. The win gave the Cedar team the right to meet Ogden for the second time in the double-elimination event and Ogden again turned the tables on the local crew with a 14 to 4 victory. Ogden garnered 11 hits and Cedar Junior Jun-ior Legionairres collected four runs on a total of 8 hits. Bevan Leigh and Roger Higbee shared mound duties in the game. Rosenberg Ros-enberg was top hitter for Cedar with two hits in four trips and two RRI's. Saturday afternoon Cedar met West Bonneville for fourth place In the tournament and Steve Ca-hon Ca-hon picked up his second victory of the tournament as Cedar downed the northern opponents by a score of 4 to 3. Cahoon went the distance. Bonneville Bon-neville scored In the first Inning to take a 1 to 0 lead. In the top of the third Bonneville scored again but Cedar bounced back in the bottom half of the Inning to tie It up at 2 all. Chamberlain led off the third with a single and scored on single by Higbee. Cv two Infield plays Higbee scored. In the fourth Cedar took the lead as Dan Lindsay led off with a triple and came in to score. Higbee came on to score in the fifth after walking to put Cedar out in front 4 to Z Bonneville pushed In one run in the seventh. Chamberlain again led the hitting hit-ting with three hits in five trips. He was followed by Lindsay with two hits, including a double and triple in four official appearances. Both teams were credited with nine hits. |
