Show 17.128 VISITORS IN JULY New Record Established at Bryce Canyon More persons visited Bryce Canyon Can-yon National Park during the month of July than In any month since the park was established, Superintendent Glen Bean reported report-ed today. Visits to the park during dur-ing the past month totaled 68,-887, 68,-887, compared to 63,033 in August of 1957, the previous record month. The total number of visitors for the year to date was nine per cent above the corresponding period per-iod last year, with the first seven sev-en months of 1959 showing 156,-404 156,-404 visitors, compared to 142,676 during the same period of 1958. Public use of the Bryce Canyon Can-yon campground has continued to rise above other years. The figures fig-ures for July, 1959, showed 17,128 overnight campground visits, compared to 13,967 in July, 1958. With the new Visitor Center at Bryce Canyon being placed in use this summer, park visitors are receiving benefits from the MISSION 66 program of the National Na-tional Park Service, Superintend ent Bean reported. Exhibits explaining ex-plaining the scenic features of the park are now located near the park entrance, where visitors can receive interpretive information informa-tion before visiting the viewpoints. view-points. The visitor center replaces a log museum buiMing constructed con-structed in 1933, and houses the administrative offices of the park. |
