Five leagues of Utah wera v p-resented p-resented in the tournament Including In-cluding Cedar City, St. George Sunrise, St. George Sunset, Milford Mil-ford and Beaver. Cedar and St. George Sunrise won their way into the tournament tourna-ment finals. Finishing In third place was Milford, followed by St. George Sunset and Beaver. Milford was defeated by Cedar City 14 to 1 in the opening round of play and the St. George Sunset league, after drawing an opening round bye, was defeated by St. George Sunrise 21 to 1 In their first tournament appearance. Beaver, defeated In the opening game by a score of 21 to 1 by St. George Sunrise, lost a heart-breaker heart-breaker to Milford In the second round 6 to 5 to be eliminated. Championship game was one of the best witnessed In a number num-ber of years that featured a pitching pitch-ing duel between Christian of St. George and Merrill Dalley of Cedar Ce-dar City. Both boys struck out seven opposing batters. Dalley allowed only three hits two were doubles compared to six collected off Christian, but 11 walks by Dalley and only one by Christian, nearly spelled doom for the Cedar City squad. St. George left 11 men stranded strand-ed on bases and twice the side was retired with the bases loaded, load-ed, including the final inning of play. Cedar City left only four men on the base paths during the six Innings of play. Christian retired six of the first seven men to face him, but In the third Inning of play Cedar exploded for three runs on three hits and three errors. St. George scored first, In the top half of the third on back to back doubles by Stratton and Webb. Webb's double scored Stratton and two walks loaded the bases before Cedar City could extinguish the fire. In the bottom half of the inning in-ning Cedar scored three runs to take the lead. Kim Leich cot on on an error but was focred at second sec-ond on an Infield drive by Sandy Webster. John Rollo walked to move Webster to second. A single by Robert Corry scored Webster and Rollo and Corry scored with two away on a single by Dalley. St. George was held in the fourth frame and Cedar bounced back with two tallies on two hits and four errors to take a 5 to 1 lead. Hits were by Webster and Corry. St. George came back strong In the fifth brame. A hit by Fish and two walks loaded the bases with no outs. A drive by Gibson to the shortstop was picked up by Mike Carr for Cedar and he attempted at-tempted to tag the runner going to third. He missed then attempt-ed attempt-ed to force at home. He missed ed the force at home, a wild throw allowed two men to score, but the runner from first. Christian, Chris-tian, had overrun third base and he was tagged for the first out attempting to get back. Two strikeouts by Dalley ended the inning with two runners still on base. Christian, a top hitter for St George, was Intentionally walked on three occasions during the game and the third free ride came in the top of the sixth to fill the bases with two away. Gibson, St. George shortstop filed into shallow left, but Rollo raced in to grab it for the out Tournament featured some outstanding action and in one of the closest games of the three-day three-day event was the 6 to 5 win for Milford over Beaver. Beaver took a 4 to 1 lead In the first three innings of play but Milford came back with a single tally in the-fourth the-fourth and four big runs on three hits in the fifth frame to edge out Beaver. The win put Milford into the playoffs for third against the St. George Sunset team and they went on to win by a 15 to 12 score In a free-swinging game on Saturday afternoon.
