Division Tourney Represents Over One Hundred Leagues; Begins Today Division Four Little League playoffs will get under way in Cedar City this afternoon with a berth in the Western West-ern Region Tournament in Sacramento at stake for the four teams remaining in the Division Four race. Cedar City Little League All-stars, Utah State champions, cham-pions, will square off with Elko, Nev., All-stars, the Nevada Neva-da state chamoions. today at 4:30. in the ooenine eame of the playoff series. When two other oth-er games are completed, one Friday Fri-day and one Saturday, a division champion will have been selected from a total of 133 leagues in an eight-state area, Including Arizona, Arizo-na, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota. Four division tournaments are under way this week, In Cedar City, Portland, Ore.; Santa Cruz, and LaMesa, Calif., and from these four tournaments, four teams representing more than 1000 leagues will be selected to compete In the Western Region Tournament at Sacramento, to determine one entry from the area to participate in the Little League World Series in Williams-port, Williams-port, Pa. The winner of the Cedar City- T"M I J 1 unu aiaic iviua) mil vat II Vlltr right to meet Black Hills, S. D. , in the second round of play, the game to be played in Cedar City Friday, at 4:30 p. m. The Black Hills team is champion for the Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota area. Winner of the Friday game will then meet either Carlsbad, N. M. or Tucson, Ariz., champions of the Arizona-New Mexico area, for the division title and region tournament berth. This game will be played Saturday at 4:3ft p. m. Carlsbad and Tucson will play In Flagstaff, Ariz, today, and the winner will move to Cedar Ce-dar Citv tomorrow. Regardless of the outcome of any of these gamer baseball fans are assured of some top baseball and exciting games during the next three days. Large crowds are expected to gather at the field for each game. The Elko and Black Hills squads are already in town, having hav-ing arrived Wednesday evening. The New Mexico-Arizona squad will arrive sometime Friday! |
