Show Sheepmen to Decide Future of Advertising Program Sheep producers In this area will have an opportunity to vote during September on whether or not to continue their promotion and advertising program conducted con-ducted by the American Sheep Producers Council, headquartered headquarter-ed at Denver, Colo. Don Clyde, president of the council and himself a sheepman of Hebert City, said It would be a tragic occasion for .the sheep Industry if the program is not continued. "It Is self-help programs pro-grams such as this that are removing re-moving some of the stigma from agriculture In the eyes of the general public," Clyde declared. In Its three years of operation the AS PC has developed a program pro-gram of advertising and promotion promo-tion for lamb in 2i major marketing mar-keting areas across the country and a nationwide program for wool. We are trying to educate the consumer to eat more lamb and wear more wool. Sheep Industry, if It Is to survive, must broaden the demand for Its products, Mr. Clyde asserted. No one Is going to do it for us, he added. He pointed out that it has tak-en tak-en time to stop the downward trend In sheep production and the corresponding drop In markets mar-kets for lamb and wool. That trend has stopped, and sheep production pro-duction is on the increase. The sheep Industry, Clyde declared, has a bright outlook If it continues con-tinues to expand markets for Its products. "We can't expect increased production pro-duction of lamb and wool to find a good market at a fair return to the producer unless we help to create such a market," Mr. Clyde said. |
