Show Tames C. Sandberg Named to Fill Unexpired Term on School Board Iron County School Board, sitting sit-ting in regular session, Monday, named James C. Sandberg to fill the unexpired term of Leo S. Larson, Lar-son, who has resigned from the school board post to move his residence to Page, Ariz. An official letter of resignation resigna-tion was submitted by Mr. Larson Lar-son as he left to establish his business in Page, Ariz. It has been know for sometime that the position would be vacated vaca-ted and some action by residents of the area represented, north of Center Street and west of Main Street, had brought several names before the school board for consideration. Mr. Sandberg was selected and called into the meeting Monday to meet with the board. At the time Sandberg accepted the nomination nom-ination and will serve the remainder re-mainder of the term of office, Dec. 31, I960. Sandberg is 34 years of age and has spent his life in Cedar City. He is a member of the engineering en-gineering staff of Columbia Iron Mining Company, at the Desert Mound pit. The Sandberg family, fam-ily, including his wife, Marva, and three children, Elna Lynee, 12; Colleen Ann,' 8 and Joyce 3, reside at 26 North 1150 West in Cedar City. He has been an active civic and church worker. A member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce he has served on the board of directors, as club treasurer and Just recently completed a term of office as vice president of the Utah Jayceea. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers Engi-neers and Is currently serving as area representative for the society. so-ciety. He has been a member of the Sixth Ward bishopric bish-opric and has served as an Elders quorum president and other assignments as-signments in the past. Education-wise Sandberg is a graduate of Utah State University. Univer-sity. He attended College . of Southern Utah one year prior to entering USU at Logan. - - As an employee of Columbia Iron Mining Company, largest taxpaylng organization - within the county, the new board member mem-ber feels that his association with the largest industrial organization organ-ization and policies will be helpful help-ful to him In performing his new duties on the school board. It is generally felt and was discussed at some length prior to the meeting that a representative from this large taxpaylng organization organ-ization on the school board, which spends the largest portion of the tax dollar in the county, would be In the Interest of good relations. Although Sandberg It employed employ-ed by Columbia, he was not singled sing-led out by the company. Several employees of Columbia were also al-so considered. |
