Show Prominent Southern Utah Resident Dies of Heart Attack at Ball Game Samuel Abbott, 67, prominent resident of Paragonah, a very active civic and church worker, and for many years a member of the Board of Education of the Iron County School District, died suddenly Wednesday evening of a heart attack. Mr. Abbott was stricken while attending a basketball bas-ketball game at the Parowan HI eh School, collapsing near the end of the game and was apparently ap-parently dead before he could be removed from the building. He had been in poor health for the past five years, having suffered a severe heart attack five years ago, and also having suffered two serious attacks since that time, before death came Wednesday. He was born In Santa Clara on May 2, 1889, a son of Myron and Emma Knight Abbott. He moved to Paragonah when about seven years of age, and had made his home there since, playing play-ing an important role in the history his-tory and activities of the community. com-munity. He engaged in farming and livestock raising throughout his life, and was very active in church and civic affairs. In the church he served in many capacities capa-cities in the various auxiliary organizations, and was also a member of the Paragonah Town Board, as president for a part of the time, for long period of time, and was active in most community affairs. He was a member of the Iron County Board of Education at the time of his death, a position he had held for 26 years. He had served a number of terms both as president and vice president of the board. On May 6, 1914, he married George L D S Temple, and they had made their home in Paragonah Para-gonah since. He is survived by his widow, two sons and three daughters, Thomas Abbott, Myron Abbott and.Orllla Lister, Paragonah; Emma Rasmussen, Parowan, and Carol Butterf ield, Euphrata, Washington. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, one half-sister, Mrs. Pearl Rogers, Cedar City, and five-half-brothers, Ray-mond Ray-mond Abbott, Idaho; Nathan and David Abbott, Nevada; Israel Abbott, Ab-bott, Pennsylvania, and Clarence Abbott, California. Funeral services have been tentatively set for Tuesday afternoon after-noon In the Paragonah Ward chapel. |
