Show Cedar High Spanish Teacher Accepted At U of P Institute Nena Venice Flake, teacher of Spanish in the Cedar City High School in Cedar City, has been inivited to participate in a seven-week seven-week language course f om June 22 to August 7 at the University Uni-versity of the Pacific, Stockton, Calif. The language institute at University Uni-versity of the Pacific is one of 69 summer institutes scheduled at various colleges and universities univer-sities for the improvment of language lan-guage teaching. Sponsored by the language development program of the National Defense Education Educa-tion Act, 1958, the institutes are, supported by funds from the United States Office of Education Educa-tion in contract with the host institutions. ins-titutions. Participants from public pub-lic schools receive a stipend of $75 per week plus allowances for dependants. Miss Flake was one of 47 teachers and future teachers selected se-lected from over 270 applicants representing 32 states. The institute will emphasize "total immersion" in the language, lan-guage, with formal classes in conversation and composition, civilization ci-vilization and inguistics. A course in modern teaching techniques, supplemented by demonstration classts, will provide pro-vide training for teachers of Spainish in the secondary grades. |
