Warm days and cool nights make the present season ideal for a sight-seeing tour in the Dinosaur-Flaming Gorge area, Utah Tourist and Publicity Commission Director D. James Cannon reminds re-minds residents. Construction of Flaming Gorge Dam, formation forma-tion of its big new lake on the Green River, improvements at the Field House of Natural History in Vernal and at the Dinosaur National Monument Visitor Center Cen-ter all add interest to the 250 miles of scenic drives available from Vernal. Vernal is the most convenient base for several side-trips necessary neces-sary to see this country. And an ideal starting point for gaining a valuable overview of the region is Utah's famed Field House of Natural History. First thing to meet your eye here is Dippy, replica re-plica of an enormous Diplidocus dinosaur skeleton. Dippy will be joined soon by a full-sized groups of ancient dinosaurs, modeled in plastic. Inside the Field House are numerous displays of geology- natural history, archaeology, gem stones, and works of art. Here ou can spend all the time you have available. East of Vernal is Dinosaur National Na-tional Monument and its modern Visitor Center built against a cliff where dinosaur fossils are constantly being uncovered and bas-reliefed for visitors to see. The many exhibits will make your visit most enjoyable. If at all possible, you should include on your Dinosaur itinerary the drive to Harper's Corner Viewpoint, View-point, a high promontory overlooking over-looking yawning, amazingly eroded canyons of the Green and Yampa Rivers. This is a memorable memora-ble scenic experience and will be a highlight of your trip. North of Vernal, drive through the evergreen-forested Uintah Mountains to Flaming Gorge Dam, behind which a blue lake is now backing up. Campgrounds and boating facilities are being developed here, and you may wish to spend a day or so at the lake boating, fishing and just relaxing. If you can, cross the lake to Manila and return from there to State 44 via rugged, colorful col-orful Sheep Creek Canyon. At Red Canyon (Green Lakes), walk to the edge of the 1500-foot gorge for a dizzy look into the lake-filled lake-filled depths below.
