Show New High School Plans Studied. Bid Call Hears A review of plans for Cedar ny s new nign svnooi, ninng ui a teacher rpelacement in the field of vocal music, and plans to bring In educational television channel 7 'rom Fa!t Lake City, occupied most of the Iron County Coun-ty School Board meeting held Monday, Dec. 11. L. Robert Gardner, architect for the proposed new $2,000,000 high school, presented a series of working plans to the board for approval and a considerable amount of time was spent by the entire board going over the Gardner indicated that It Is anticipated that plans will be completed in sufficient time for the board to set a date for the calling of bids for the high school some time In January. The board Indicated plans to set the date for the calling of bids at the January 8 board meeting. Board was advised that $18,000 had been loaned from the school district recreation fund to Iron County for the purpose of assisting assist-ing the intallation of tevelision in Iron County. The school district dis-trict is now interested in bringing bring-ing educational channel No. 7 from Salt Lake City into the county for use in the school work. As a result the board authorized $SHK) of the monies already loaned to the county to be retained by the county in ex-; ex-; change for the facilities being used to boost the euucationai channel into this area. On a state level funds have been allocated to increase the strength of the educational channel system, and with this additional strength it is expected expect-ed that the signal can be received receiv-ed over the Iron County booster system. Keith Burris of Logan was named by the board to replace Wallace Adams as director of vocal vo-cal music in the Cedar City secondary sec-ondary school system. Mr. Adams has asked to be released at the end of 1961 and Mr. Burris will assume his new responsibilities on January 1, 19(52. In other action of the board Howard Ward was authorized to 1 complete work during the Christmas Christ-mas vacation to bring about independent in-dependent operation of the two boiler systems in the heating plant of the High School annex, formerly the West Elementary building. Superintendent Ianthus Wright was also authorized to draw up specifications and prepare to call for bids for a small bus or carryall carry-all unit for use in the Parowan Valley area. Call for bids on this item is expected later this month. Members of the school board .lso announced their intentions of attending the National School Board Convention to be held in St. Louis, Missouri, April 12, 13 and 14, 19G2. Only one board member indicated that business at that time of the year may make it impossible for him to attend. |
