Show Lady Lions Plan Annual 4th Parade: Ask Support Last week a committee of Lady Lions met to formulate plans for the annual Lady Lions Miniature Fourth of July Parade. This committee, com-mittee, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Francis Betenson, announced an-nounced the theme for the parade pa-rade would be "Our Nation in Song." It was over ton years ago, that the Lady Lions, in an effort to supply a parade for the children chil-dren of Cedar City, cm the Fourth of July, acvepted the responsibility responsibil-ity of planning and directing this community activity. The Lady Lions can plan and direct this parade but only the people ol Cedar City can make it ,i so.-cess. so.-cess. With this thought in mind, the Lady Lions appeal to businessmen, busi-nessmen, organizations and I'mi ilies to plan now to enter a float in this parade. When the first parade committee commit-tee met over ten years ago, they decided that a miniature parade would encourage families, bus-ness bus-ness houses and organizations to participate. A miniature float is described as anything that can be pushed or pulled. These floats can be mounted on coaster wagons, wa-gons, tricycles, baby walkers, platforms mounted on roller skates, etc. A little crepe paper and some ingenuity can make a float that children will remember and cherish for years to come, s In an effort to wieourage more family participation, the Lady ' Lions announced that again, as I! i.i.-i year, family floats will be j judged in a different division ! from commercial and organiza-!' lions. Prizes for both divisions ! w.ll he identical. j j The three parade sections will ! be: Theme Section, .Nursery, liiiyme and decorated tricycles in I bicycles. ; First, second and third prizes'1 viil be awarded in each division and a grand prize will be select-j ed from among the floats using, .i patriotic theme. Koyuity for the parade will he seiecle.1 at the annual Lady Lions King and Queen contest and will ride a float prepared for them by the Lady Lions. For a child to participate in the King and Queen contest they must be four years of age before be-fore Julv 4. l)t!1 nn.l mii n.a have reached six years of age before be-fore that date. iVu-ents may register reg-ister their child for this contest at Hunter Hardware Co. or by sending a post card to Mrs. Max Weaver, -4t N. 107)0 West, stating the following information: child's name, age, parents' names and telephone number. All cards must reach Mrs. Weaver by June 23. The royalty will be elected at a drawing to be held at Radio Station KSUB and to be broad-cast broad-cast by that station. Date and time of this drawing will be announced an-nounced at a later date. In order to simplify the registration regis-tration of floats, Mrs. Bctenson announced that anyone who desired de-sired to enter a float can register it in advance by calling any of the following telephone numbers, JIT 6 C850, JU 6-9329 and JU 6-62G5. The theme for this year "Our Nation in Song," should bring to your mind numerous ideas. Consider Con-sider such songs as "It's a Grand Old Flag," "Star Spangled Banner," Ban-ner," "America the Beautiful," "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "Yellow Rose of Texas." "Old Folks at Home," "On Top f Old Smoky," etc. Assembly time for the parade has been set for 8:30 a. m. on July 1 and the parade will move down Main Street from 2X) South at 9:30 a. m. Parade route will be down Main Street from 200 South to the City Park on 201 No. The Lady Lions appeal to -1-H groups, Cub Scout groups, civic organizations, business houses, I families, neighborhood groups, j everyone, to make this parade I the biggest and best in its his-1 his-1 tory. |
