Show School Board Approves Budget, Issues Bid Calls, Sets Up Studies Budget for the Iron County School district for the next year was approved at the meeting of the board of education Monday, June 12. A full report on the budget bud-get will appear in the June 22 edition of the Iron County Record. Re-cord. In other action of the board authorization for a series of bids and purchases were made. Authorization for a call for bids to have the west wing of I the old elementary in Parowan removed, was approved. The Parowan Par-owan High School is continuing to utilize the auditorium and the east wing of the building. in this issue of the Record calls for bids for building insurance insur-ance will be found. Bid calls for coal, milk and gasoline will appear ap-pear next week. Permission was also granted for the purchase of a large gang-type gang-type lawn mower, for a tiller and also for a pipe threading machine. mach-ine. The accounting firm of Thomas Tho-mas J. Christiansen of Salt Lake City was accepted to conduct the audit of the school district this year. They submitted the apparent ap-parent low quotation. Only other quotation was received by the firm of Branagan and Southwick and Co, also of Salt Lake City. James Sandberg, member of the school board, reported to the board on his attendance at the National School Board convention conven-tion held in Philadelphia. Par in May. The board also granted permission per-mission of Superintendent Ian-thus Ian-thus Wright to attend the Cub-berly Cub-berly Conference at Stanford University Uni-versity July 24 through July 28 at the rennest nf the stato Sr-hnnl board. The Cubberley Conference deals with similar studies as has been conducted in connection with the Cedar City High School through a Ford Foundation grant to Stanford University. Owing to his association with this study the State School board requested the attendance of Superintendent Wright. District also accepted an agreement agree-ment with the State School Board to conduct two research studies in Iron County. State School board has appropriated approximately approx-imately $8000 for the studies and the county district will contribute contri-bute approximately $1500 to the program. The first study will be at Parowan Paro-wan High School and will be a research on enrichment programs for small high schools. Second study will be at the Cedar CUy High School and will be a continuation con-tinuation of the study that was began through the Ford Foundation Founda-tion grant and the Stanford Planning Laboratory. The board concluded the meeting meet-ing with a tour of the South Elementary Ele-mentary grounds for an inspection inspec-tion of the blacktopping. |
