This is one of the striking statistics stat-istics of the 22nd year of Little League Baseball, highlighted this week by the observance of National Nat-ional Little League Baseball Week as proclaimed by President Presi-dent John F. Kennedy. More than one million unl formed Little Leaguers will be in action throughout the week in more than 4,000 communities scattered throughout 23 nations of the free world. In urging people peo-ple of the United States to participate par-ticipate in observing Little League Lea-gue Baseball Week, Mr. Kennedy Ken-nedy declared: "Little League not only promotes pro-motes physical well-being . . but also instills qualities of fairness, cooperation and discipline qualities qual-ities which contributed to the development of good citizenship." At Little League Headquarters in Williamsport, Pa., Peter J. Mc-Govern, Mc-Govern, president and chairman of the Board of Directors of Little Lit-tle League Baseball, Inc., paid tribute to the thousands of adult volunteers for their dedicated service ser-vice without which, he said, Little Lit-tle League could not have become be-come the foremost youth movement move-ment of its kind in the world. MeGovern said benefits of Little Lit-tle League exposure have become increasingly evident as early graduates emerge into manhood. He declared: "there is conclusive proof that Little League training has elevated thousands of young men to a platform of leadership and responsible citizenship and is today accomplishing many of the goals set out for our youth." |
