Show SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDACY nominating Convention Date Listed Under new regulations for the election of members of the State Board of Education, a nominating nominat-ing convention for the District Jlo. 5 will be held In Cedar City -n Friday, April 20. In the past, members of the State Board of Education have been elected by vote of the mem-terg mem-terg of the local school boards In each of the seven districts, but legislation adopted at the last session of the State Legislature lias provided that board members sfiaH be ejected at the general election. The term of office has . , I 'been nine years, but under the new regulation the term of each member will be for four years, and the members will be elected at the general election. However, I It is designated as a non-partisan election and the candidates will be listed on a special non-partisan bajlot, but voted on at the regular November election. School board district No. 5 includes five counties, Juab, Millard, Mil-lard, Beaver, Iron and Washington Washing-ton counties, and two candidates to represent the district will be nominated at the April 20 convention, con-vention, Mr. Hunter said. W. O. Bentley of St. George Is representative to the state board at the present time, having served serv-ed In that capacity for the past 18 years. His term expires at the end of this year. Mr. Hunter urges people from j all five counties Interested in education to attend the nominating nom-inating convention In Cedar City April 20, and participate In the selection of candidates for this very important position. |
