Show Season Appears Bleak For Shorthanded Track and Field Coach Coach Glen Jackson of the Cedar Ce-dar City High School Is really moaning his blues this year. AfUr winning the state track and field meet last year Jackson finds himself far short of a similar sim-ilar potential this season. It isn't that what he has isn't as good, so much as the fact that the quantity is Just not there. For instance in the field events including the pole vault, broad jump, shot put, Javelin, discus, not a singJe man has turned out this season to even participate. Quantity is also lacking in the running events at the high school this season. The only event with any depth at all is the 410 and here the possibilities for points is possibly the greatest. Four-forty men who have shown promise include Lee Sher- ratt, Dayne Gardner, Bob Clark, Spencer Bryant and John Bent-ley. Bent-ley. In the sprints Kenneth Griener is the sole hopeful, although a number of sophomores are trying try-ing out and their qualifications are not yet known. A few sophomores' sopho-mores' are trying out in severaJ events, Jackson said. In the 880-yard run Ray Bauer and Warren Rlgby will undoubtedly undoubt-edly be entered and in the mile run David Sagers is "lone wolfing" wolf-ing" it Larry Lowder Is working one on the high hurdles. First meet of the year will be in St. George Saturday, April 14. with the B Y U Invitational the following week. |
