Show J. Clayton Mitchell Dies Monday In Salt Lake Hospital J. Clayton Mitchell, 77 of Salt Lake City, former Iron County businessman and one time may-o may-o of Parowan City, died Monday evening in a Salt Lake hospital following a long illness. Mr. Mitchell had been an official offi-cial and cashier cf the Bank ol Iron County ior 21 years, and served as mayor of this city for two terms. The Mitchell family moved to Salt Lake City from here in 1932 and he become secretary-treasurer of the Wasatch Livestock Loan Co., a position he held until his retirement in 1955. He was born in Parowan Nov. 16, 1885, a son of William Cooke and Huldah Dalton Mitchell. He was educated In Parowan public school, the old Murdock Academy at BeaveY and Branch Agricultural College at Cedar City, now College of Southern South-ern Utah, and the University of Utah where he graduated in 1908. He married Irene Canfield on Jan. 3, 1912 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He had been active In the LDS Church and had served in the high priest's Quorum of Grant Stake. Prior to moving to Salt Lake City he had served as bishop of the Parowan East Ward. He had fulfilled a mission mis-sion for the church In the Central Cen-tral States. Following his graduation from the U of U he served as principal princi-pal of a school in Tooele County Coun-ty for two years. Survivors include his widow; two sons, William Dean, Denver, Colo; Bartlett C, Salt Lake City, and one daughter, Mrs. Seare (Marie) Morrison, Salt Lake City; Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services are being held today (Thursday), at 12:15 p. m. In the Grant Fourth Ward chapel In Salt Lake City. |
