Show Former Parowan Resident Chosen San Juan County Candidate for Mother of Year Honor i MRS. RETA PAGE BARTELL A former resident of Parowan whose parents were well known native of this city, was named by San Juan County as its candidate for Mother of the Year competition competi-tion on a state basis, according to newspaper clippings received by relatives in Parowan last week. The honored woman is Mrs. Reta Page Bartell of Montlcello, San Juan County, which county she is representing in the contest con-test Mrs. Bartell is a daughter of Robert G. and Dora Halter- I man Page, who were born ami raised in Parowan. She was born in Cedar City, July 11, 1905. She attended elementary school in this community and then the (family moved to Utah County where she attended and graduated graduat-ed from Pleasant Grove High School. Her mother, now a resident of Salt Lake City, sent copies of the San Juan Record, containing the word of her selection, to Mrs. Ray Mitchell of this city, and the papers pa-pers contain a long list of her accomplishments since going to Montlcello in 1927 as a school teacher. Following high school Mrs. Bartell attended BYU and U of U where she received her 2-year normal degree. In Montlcello she met and married Kenneth R. Bailey, Bai-ley, who died in 1956. They had four children, two sons and two daughters. In 1958 she married Leonard J. Bartell, farmer and stockman of that city. Mrs. Bartell returned to the school room in 1938 as a substitute substi-tute teacher and became a permanent per-manent teacher in that district in 1945. By attending school between time she received her B.S. degree in 1959 and her elementary school administrative certificate in 1961. She is serving her seventh sev-enth year as elementary supervisor super-visor of the San Juan School Dis. trlct. In her present capacity she has been instrumental in preparing prepar-ing and introducing many new instruction methods in that district. dis-trict. In a civic way she has served one term on the city council, and last year was a member of the community development committee. commit-tee. At the present time she is a member of numerous educational, educa-tional, civic and cultural groups in her community. Always an active member of the LDS Church, she has served in the YWMIA, the Primary and the Sunday School and is currently cur-rently teaching a group of 24 nine and ten year olds. |
