Show Election Recalled On Cedar City Airport Bonding Issue A $iJ0,000 bond election for improvements im-provements and runway extension exten-sion at the Cedar City Municipal Airport which won overwhelming approval in an election February Febru-ary 5, will have to be voted on. again, it was announced this week by Mayor Kumen S. Gardner. Gard-ner. Residents of Cedar City favored favor-ed the bonding program to meet the city's portion of the proposed j program by nearly a 7 to 1 margin mar-gin in the February election, but to no avail. Failure to meet the requirements require-ments of law in official publication publica-tion of notices of election makes it manditory that it be restaged. Cedar City Council set the date for the second balloting on the issue. It will be Tuesday, April 16. Machinery was set in motion at the Thursday evening meeting meet-ing of the council to restage the I bond election and to fulfill the requirements of law in giving proper notice. The FFA has committed funds to meet 62 percent of the cost of the project and the State Commission has approved expen- uiiun-s iu im-i-i is jjfrufiu, leaving leav-ing Cedar City with an obligation of 19 percent. Estimated total cost of realignment realign-ment and Improvements is $500,-000, $500,-000, Mayor Gardner stated. In other action of the council,. Lunt Motor Co. was awarded the contract, as low bidder, for supplying sup-plying a two-ton truck for use by the Streets Department Clifton Chatterley, who has been serving as chairman of the Cedar City Planning and Zoning Commission, submitted a resignation, resig-nation, owing to the fact that he Is presently attending school in northern Utah and not available avail-able to serve. Planning Commission The Council accepted the resig. nation and appointed Clarence Miller to fill the vacancy on the commission. Meeting with the city were of- --ffcials --ffcials of the Coal Creek Irrigation Irriga-tion Co. to discuss relocation of ditches near the Municipal Airport Air-port which will be required by the extension and relocation of airport runways which Is being planned. Mayor Gardner indicated that the need for the reelection would not delay planning and progress on the project. Applications are being prepared for submission and funds from the FAA are not expected until June, "tven with the second election deadlines can be met," he stated. |
