Show Easter Seal Drive Organized For Iron County Organization of the Easter Seal campaign in Iron County was announced this week by Mrs. E. W. Southwick, member of the board of directors o ihe Utah Society So-ciety for CriPDled Children and Adults. The campaign will be conduct- j ed through the month of April and will be neaded by Forrest Hunter, who will serve as chairman. chair-man. Others working with Mr. Hunter Hunt-er in this campaign will be Chairman; Mrs. M. F. Burgess and Mrs. Elwood S. Jensen, telephone tele-phone recruiters; and Bernel Twitchell, who will handle the cannister placement and collection collec-tion through the Iron County County Sheriff's Jeep Patrol. Need Volunteeri Additional volunteers are needed need-ed to serve in the door to door campaign that will be conducted throughout the month, the new officers point out. Anyone interested inter-ested In working in the organization organiza-tion have been asked to call Mr. Hunter at 586-4074; Mrs. Jensen at 536-8037 or Mrs. Burgess at 586-4983. The Society, which is supported support-ed through the Easter Seal campaign cam-paign maintains a full service program throughout tie state. A rehabilitation workship is maintained main-tained in Utah at which eleven projects arc helping handicapped people find a new lease on life. Als.i maintained is an evaluation center to determine abilities of crippled and handicapped for placement in the Workshop, further fur-ther their education, or if possible, possi-ble, direct placement in industry. Summer Camps Held Through the cooperation of the Utah National Guard, crippled children are given an opportunity to attend a summer camp. These youngsters come from throughout through-out the state to participate. A speech and hearing clinic is provided in Logan and bus transportation is provided crippled crip-pled children to Gramercy School in Ogden. The Society continually works for the elimination of architectural architec-tural barriers so that the handicapped handi-capped may use public buildings, go to .school, attend Church, and litul employment in industries. Youth Corps Status Lonnie Ayers also reported at the meeting on the status of the proposed application on a Youth Corp Project. He Indicated that he had received a call from Washington, D. C, suggesting minor changes and also a request re-quest from Governor Calvin H. Rampton for a copy of the proposed pro-posed project. Application, he indicated was under consideration considera-tion in Washington. Chairman of the Youth Council, Elwood J. Corry, also announced the release of Gale Duncar as council member and as chairman of the Teen Council owing to other commitments and responsibilities. |
