Show Harry Leith-Ross To Lecture At Summer School Harry Lelth-Ross, nationally know water colorlst, will be the featured speaker Thursday evening eve-ning in the second of the weekly week-ly lecture series at College of Southern Utah summer session. The lecture will be held at 8 p. m. in the lounge of the library li-brary building, and will be open to the public as well as students at the college. A one-man exhibit of Mr. Leith-Ross's works Is now on display In the lounge. He will discuss some of his works, giving giv-ing interesting sidelights on their development, as well as giving a general discussion of water color art. On the C S U campus for a two-week workshop In water color col-or and oil painting, Mr. Leigh-Ross Leigh-Ross comes from New Hope, Pa. He is a member of the American Water Color Society and the National Na-tional Academy of Denign. Ills course proved so popular with summer school students that he found It necessary to divide the class, spending half the day with each group. While In the Cedar City area he has still found time to do some original paintings, one of which Is In the exhibit at C S U. Among the recent honors he has won is the Morse Gold Medal Me-dal of the National Academy of Design. This Is the highest honor hon-or that could be given a painter paint-er not American-born, and was named In honor of S. F. B. Morse, Inventor of the telegraph and one of the founders of the academy. aca-demy. The painting which won the award was "Demolition." This work was subsequently pur-chased pur-chased by the Ranger Fund of the National Academy, and presented pre-sented to the Pennsylvania Academy Aca-demy of Fine Arts for its permanent perman-ent collection. Another treatment of the same subject In the water color medium, entitled 'Tassing of a Landmark," is among the works on exhibit at C S U. This water color was awarded a prize by the Baltimore Water Color Club. |
