Show Commissioners Take Action On Dust Problem The Board of County Commissioners Commis-sioners In regular meeting Monday Mon-day took action to attempt to solve a dust hazard to traffic in the Buckhorn Flat area, took action ac-tion on the purchase of land for recreation purposes, named delegates dele-gates to the Utah School of Alcohol Alco-hol Studies, heard a report of auditors of county books, considered consid-ered the advisability of Joining a "rain making" project and named a chairman for the Iron County Fair. Dust conditions In the Buck-horn Buck-horn Flat area caused by prolonged pro-longed drouth conditions and perhaps per-haps some over-grazing, has created cre-ated a serious traffic hazard, which on five occasions this spring has forced officers to stop traffic. The County Commissioners Commission-ers conferred with the Commissioners Commis-sioners of Beaver County Monday to consider the matter and a special committee was appointed appoint-ed to make a detailed study of the situation In an effort to correct cor-rect the condition. , Named to the special committee commit-tee were Keith Norris, Cedar City, range manager, U. S. Bureau of Land Management: Lee Carlson. unit conservationist, Iron County Soil Conservation District; Conway Con-way Parry, also with B L M, and Frank Smith, Beaver County commissioner. com-missioner. Set Hearing The board had previously agreed to cooperate with other local agencies in the purchase and development of Wood's Ranch in Cedar Canyon for a recreation rec-reation area, and took action this week to hold a hearing for the transfer of funds for this purpose. pur-pose. The notice of hearing may be found elsewhere in this Issue of the Iron County Record. The Commissioners named A. C. Hatch, Parowan High School faculty member; D. C. Schmutz, College of Southern Utah agricultural agri-cultural Department head, and Ray Dalley, Cedar City, as delegates dele-gates to attend the fourth annual an-nual Utah School of Alcohol studies stu-dies at the University of Utah June 19 througru25. The report of the auditors ot county books was complimentary as to the condition of accounts and the manner in which the books are kept, with one exception. excep-tion. This dealt with the matter of an accumulation of fines levied lev-ied by the District Court in the amount of $1,704, which is shown to be delinquent. Recommendation Recommenda-tion was made that if these fines are not collectable that the county request the court to cancel can-cel them. Study Rain Making The Commissioners took under advisement a request from the Southern Utah Water Resources Development Association that the county participate in a "rain making" project. The proposal was made by Boyd Quate, representative repre-sentative of the water resources corporation. He presented charts supporting the. advisability of such participation. Arnold Gurr of Parowan was named chairman of the 1955 Iron 1 County Fair Committee, and the commissioners will accept his recommendation for remaining members of the committee. The Fair will be held early In September Sep-tember and preparations will begin be-gin Immediately, it Is understood. |
