Show Softball League Opens With Victories For Columbia and UC Columbia Iron Mines and the Utah Construction Company teams in the Cedar City Softball Association league, emerged victorious vic-torious in the opening round of play Monday and Wednesday evenings. In the opening game Monday night Utah Construction clobbered clobber-ed the Sixth Ward to the tune of 17 to 1 in two innings of play. Under the rules of the association any 'team holding a 15 run lead at the end of even innings Is termed the winner. This rule was enforced in the opening game. Wednesday evening Columbia, a hard hitting crew, downed the Iron County Record by a score of 8 to 3. York Nelson, on the mound for the mines team, al-lewed al-lewed only three hits and had had allowed only one hit and no runs going 4rrto the sixth Inning, The single hit at that point was made in the bottom of the fifth. Columbia, although accumulating accumulat-ing only five hits, pushed in eight runs, four in the top half of the seventh and final inning. Bunny Fullmer led off the scoring scor-ing for the mines when he knocked knock-ed out a home run into deep center cen-ter field, the second man to face Rulon Woodbury, chucker for the Record. Roger Felt walked with two out In the first inning and Dick Dotson hit the second home run with Felt on to take a 3 to 0 lead. John Wood, third sacker for the mines, belted out a third home run for Columbia in the seventh inning with one man on base. Friday evening Iron County Record and Utah Construction meet. Monday evening Columbia and Sixth Ward meet. All games will be played at 8:30 p. m., according ac-cording to Nolan Stokes, acting president of the association. |
