Show HERE AKD THERE Mrs. Theiol McArthar The Summer Reading Club held its first summer meeting June 3 at the airport for a luncheon, lunch-eon, President Cora Stucki, presiding. pre-siding. Mrs. Dewie F. Thorley gave a report of a meeting held at the State Training School at American Fork. Mrs. Stucki read some short selections. There were ,11 members present and five guests who were Mrs. Misha Jones, Miss Carrie Leigh, Mrs. Grace McMullin, Mrs. Christen-son Christen-son and Mrs. Ruth Seegmiller. A very enjoyable afternoon for the ladies was reported. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bentley of Parowan accompanied their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Knell, to California where they attended the graduation gradua-tion exercises of Mr. Bentley's daughter,- Mrs. Pearl Mortensen, the former Pearl Bontley, from Pasadena College. Lambert Lam-bert of Lehl are here visiting with their son '"Tony" and his family, and their daughter, Martha. Mar-tha. They attended the Lions convention, con-vention, also. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Mrs. Lona Watson was surprised sur-prised with A visit from friends of Salt Lake City yesterday: Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hiskins. They were enroute to St. George. The Second Ward Relief Society ladies held their "work meeting" on the patio at the home of Mrs. Amy Van Cott Tuesday afternoon, June 14. The ladies brought their sewing and visited during the afternoon. af-ternoon. Mrs. lone Lambert entertained her Monday night bridge club this past week. Twelve members were present and the following gue f ts: Mrs. Joseph Lambert, Mrs. Ronny Duncan and Mrs. Art Hig-bee. Hig-bee. Mrs. Corry Olson, Mrs. Dick Leigh and Mrs. Ralph B. Piatt were prize winners for the evening. eve-ning. Miss Wendy Crabtree was hostess host-ess to six little friends Friday afternoon, June 16, the occasion being Wendy's thrid birthday. Those present were Beverly Bess, Christine Kemp, Clarisse Tucker, Tampa McArthur, Madeline Chamberlain and Eddie Jacobs. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Dix of Henderson, Hen-derson, Nev., former residents of Cedar City, are here visiting with Mr. Dix's mother, Mrs. Nellie Dix. Eighteen neighbors called at the home of Mrs. Will Clark to wish her a "happy birthday." The ladies enjoyed visiting during the afternoon and talking over the past. Refreshments were served during the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Leigh are having a good visit with their family who are home, some for the summer and some for a short visit. Colleen, who has been teaching at Wm. Penn School in the Granite district will remain here for the summer. Allen, who is a junior at the Uah State Agricultural Ag-ricultural College, will be working work-ing at Grand Canyon during the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Don W. Esplin (Billie Leigh) have been in Salt Lake City at the University Univer-sity of Utah. Mr. Esplin received his Ph.D. in pharmacology and is teaching and doing research at the Utah school. Billie is working work-ing at the pharmacology laboratory labora-tory at the university. Don is a son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Esplin. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Rudinsky (Norma Leigh) are now living in Corvallis, Ore., where Mr. Rudinsky Rudin-sky is teaching and doing re-' re-' search in entomology at Oregon State College. Miss Sylvia Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith, who has been attending nursing school at the University of Utah this past winder, is home for the summer. She will return to the nursing school in September. Mrs. Rex Harris was hostess to her bridge club Wednesday eve-ning, eve-ning, June 8. A delightful lunch was served to 11 members and the following guests: Mrs. Max Randall, Mrs. Dee Arthur, Mrs. Hugh Cheever. Mrs. Max Randall won the prize for high honors during the evening. Mrs. Gwen Stucki was acting hostess for the members of her club Wednesday, June 8. Vivian ralmer reviewed the book, "Willis "Wil-lis Wayde," by John P. Mar-qrand. Mar-qrand. Mr. Marquand is an American novelist and his book was not only very entertaining but typically American. Fourteen members were present and enjoyed en-joyed a delightful luncheon. |
