Show William U. Thornton Succumbs at Las Vegas Hospital William U. Thornton 88, a long time and highly respected resident resi-dent of this community, died late Tuesday at a Las Vegas hospital where he had been in a serious condition for several weeks, with infirmities incident to age causing caus-ing his death. He died just five days following his 88th birthday. He had spent part of the winter with his children in Las Vegas Ve-gas where he was stricken seriously ser-iously ill. Funeral services will be held 1 in the Parowan Third ward cha- ! pel Saturday at 2:30 p. m. under ! the direction of Bishop Karl O. i Mitchell and interment will be in the Parowan city cemetery. A native of Parowan, Mr. Thornton was born here April 10, 1805, a son of Stephen and Nancy Curtis Thornton, and spent most of his early life here. He was married to Adelinda Orton on Nov. 17, 1887 in Parowan and the union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L D S temple. Following Fol-lowing their marriage they lived in Alton, Kane county and Spry, j Garfield county, returning here in 1009 to make their home and have resided here ever since. Mr. Thornton was an active and was a member of the Paro-member Paro-member of the L 1) S church wan Third ward high priests quorum at the time of his death. He spent much of his life working in the lumber business, operating a sawmill at several locations in the local mountains as well as in Garfield county-He county-He was also an early clay freighter freight-er to t ho Nevada minii; camps. His wifo preceded him in death uv a iiiuL- inure man a year. Surving are 10 of his 14 children. chil-dren. They are as follows: William Wil-liam E. and Merrill Thorton and Mrs. Net a Taylor of this city; I Mrs. Nancy Farnswnrth, Cedar I City; Mrs. Jean Wightman, of ISpringville; Byron O. Thornton, Mrs. Sylvia Trelease, Mrs. Clara Allen, Mrs. Harriett Hicks, and Mrs. Afton Werner, all of Las Vegas. Nev.; 43 grandchildren and id great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ella Carson of Junction. |
