Show Broncos Defeat Rebels in Dual Meet; Chatterley Vaults Over Thirteen Feet In the initial track and field event for the Branch Agricultural Agricultur-al college Broncos and the Dixie Rebels, held at St. George Tuesday Tues-day afternoon, the Broncs coasted into a landslide vistory to the tune of 106 to 30 in total points. Twenty-eight of Coach Dave Gates' Bronco squad made the Dixie invasion and walked away from the field with 11 first places out of the 14 events run off, leav-: ing the Rebels with three first; places. J Probably the best mark of the afternoon was the pole vaulting fete of Lewis Chatterley of BAC who cleared the bar at 13 feet two inches. This Is an inch and one-half over the I C A C record. However to establish a new record, rec-ord, the jump must be made at the I C A C meet. Another outstanding fete of the day was a high jump of six foot one inch by Derald Evans of B A C, which is near the I C A C record. Thre of the events of the day were swept by the Broncos, including in-cluding the 220 yard dash and the discus, according to Coach Gates. Also the two Broncos entered en-tered in the mile and two mile finished first and second in both events leaving only the third spot open to the Dixie Rebels. Following are the result of each event. Time 10.5 seconds, 220 yard dash: Four tied for first, all BAC, Poulson, Hone, George Horton and Jack Sawyers. Saw-yers. No time. 440 yard dash: George Horton, BAC; Dudley Rowley, Rebels; Bruce Rigby, BAC. Time 55.4. 880 yard run: Lundeen, Rebels; Boyd Carpenter. BAC; Rigby, BAC. Time 2:10.2. Mile run: Laurel Pulsipher, BAC; Vernon Condie, BAC. Time 5:10 minutes. Two mile run: misipner, cal.; Condie, BAC. Time, 11:55.1 minutes. min-utes. Low hurdles: Poulson, BAC; Leavitt, Rebels; Charles Jackson, BAC. Time 26.7 seconds. High hurdles: Glade Wilks, BAC; Leavitt, Rebels; Jackson, BAC. Time 16.5 seconds. Both the 880 yard relay and the mile relay were captured by the Broncos, it is understood. The next appearance for a number of the thinclads of BAC will be in exhibitions at the Ce dar-Dixie high school dual meet to be held at the BAC stadium Friday afternoon, April 17. Following Fol-lowing that Coach Gates anticipates anti-cipates a week of strenuous workouts in preparation for the Brigham Young Universitay Invitational In-vitational meet to be held in Provo on April 25. |
