Show I Capacity Crowd Enjoys Kiwanis Talent Show An almost capacity crowd's hearts were captured last Saturday Satur-day evening at the annual Junior Talent Show by a tap dancing duet number from Hurricane, Ken Hughes and Craig Barrick, six and seven years old, respectively. respec-tively. This youthful pair unanimously unanimous-ly won the Junior division of the annual show, giving off with not only stage appearance but an outstanding tap performance as well. Other winners in the junior division di-vision who turned in outstanding performances were the Misses Mary and Barbara Staheli of Enterprise, En-terprise, who sang themselves to second place. vurnpeuuon in me upper bracket was a little closer with several of the contestants having to do repeat performances in order or-der that a winner could be deter- ' mined, It was that close. After three repeats Miss Carol Boyns, an enthusiastic tap and twirling number, wound up In the number num-ber one spot followed closely by Lane Merryweather, better known as "Saxophobia" for his saxophone saxo-phone rendition. Hans Tait, trumpeter from Orderville, and Diana Cooley, playing a difficult piano solo were in the contest up to the very last, when it was necessary nec-essary to cut the winners in two. Both of the upper division contestants con-testants are from Cedar City with Miss Boyns the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boyns, and Mr. Merryweather the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Merryweather. Sixteen contestants competed auring me evening, seven in me upper division and nine in the lwer, with two specialty numbers num-bers added to complete the evening's eve-ning's entertainment. Reynolds Johnson of St. George, formerly a dance artist In Hollywood, and the New York stage, performed a tap number and a ballet number, num-ber, receiving an outstanding response re-sponse from the audience. Walt Lowe, member of the local Kiwanis Ki-wanis club gave a reading of "His Juke Box Love", a comical rendition of the highly improbable. improb-able. Carlos Taylor, head of the committee com-mittee for the third annual Talent Tal-ent Show spent many hours and a great deal of effort preparing and presenting the show, and a word of thanks has been expressed ex-pressed by many Cedar City citizens. citi-zens.
