Show High School Music Festival Moved To St. George to Fit Dance Program A conflict of dates between school and church activities has resulted in a change in the host city for the annual Region Six high school music festival, according ac-cording to Pratt M. Bethers, prin- cipal of the Cedar City High School, and activities association representative. The music festival In which bands, orchestras and choruses of the schools of the region compete com-pete was scheduled to be held in Parowan on Saturday, May 8, but because the M I A district dance festival was scheduled on the same day at St. George, it became be-came necessary. to change the music festival plans. Many of the band, orchestra and chorus members of the high schools of Region Six are also active in the M I A dance program pro-gram and since it would be impossible im-possible for the students to participate par-ticipate in the music festival in Parowan during the day and then be in St. George for the dance festival that evening, a change was made and both events will be held in St. George. The music festival activities will be held throughout the day, with the dance festival to be staged in the Dixie Sun Bowl in the evening. eve-ning. Participating Schools Eight stakes, Beaver, Parowan, Cedar, Zion Park, Moapa, Kanab, Uvada and St. George, will participate parti-cipate in the dance festival. Schools participating in the music mu-sic festival will be Delta, Millard, Beaver, Milford, Parowan, Cedar, Enterprise, Dixie, Hurricane, Kanab Ka-nab and Orderville. Events scheduled in the music festival include chorus contests, band and orchestra playing and sight reading, and band marching march-ing contests. Combining the two events will certainly test the endurance of the young participants. Either event, particularly the music festival, fes-tival, is a strenuous day of activity acti-vity for the students and to have many of them remain for the additional ad-ditional activities of the dance festival, will probably result in one of the most strenuous days of activity that the students have or will participate in during dur-ing their years in school. |
