Show City Council Makes Appointments At Special Meeting At a special ' meeting of ' the Parowan City Council Monday night final action was taken on several appointments that have been pending, an okeh was given giv-en for the purchase of a radio-equipped radio-equipped patrol car for use of the city marshal and night watchman, watch-man, and several other matters of business were taken care of including in-cluding a program of improve-1 ments at the city cemetery and city park. Appointments made were as follows: Elmer Green was appointed ap-pointed as nightwatchman to replace re-place Ray Bentley, who has held that position for several years. Mr. Green's appointment also includes in-cludes the job of city patrol operator op-erator and helper when needed on other city projects. He will receive re-ceive $150 per month as night-watchman night-watchman and be paid on an hourly basis for other work. His appointment becomes effective May 1. Kent Mitchell was appointed as city justice of the peace, replacing replac-ing John W. Bentley, who has hold that position for a number of years, and John S. Mitchell was re-appointed as assistant caretaker at the city cemetery, a job he held for a portion of last summer, with his duties to begin be-gin May 1. The car purchased for the police po-lice department is a 1052 Pontiac obtained from Fair Deal Motor Co. in Cedar City at a cost of $1750 with the radio installation to cost an additional $250. The car has a new car guarantee and the city may defer the initial payment for 90 to 180 days if ii needs to, and will be for the use of the marshall and nightwatchman nightwatch-man while strictly in the lino ol duty. The cemetery improvement project approved by the council will close two more streets at that nlarv nrwJ nlntit ffio arna thus procured to lawn before it is sold for burial plots. Two more streets closed a year or two ago and on which only a few burials have been made, will also be planted as far as the unsold part is concerned. A new and wider street south of the platted portion of the cemetery will be opened up and graded and graveled and an additional roadway will be opened open-ed up around the south end of the cemetery just inside of the fence. A perpetual care program for new burial plots sold will be worked out as soon as possible if the citizens desire such a plan. An effort will be made to install in-stall a sprinkling system on the area between the curb and sidewalk side-walk fronting on the church park block with it to be planted this year if possible. It was reported that the improvement im-provement of the lane running west from Main street past the Taylor Cafe, is being held up because be-cause of the inability to acquire deed to one or two pieces of property prop-erty needed to widen that lane. When the deeds are procured, a water line will be run down the lane and it will be graded, graveled grav-eled and oiled. ! i |
