Show Former Residents Tell Experiences In Mountains of Peru A most interesting letter was received this week by Klien Rollo, member of the Iron County Record Rec-ord staff, from Wesley and Claud-la Claud-la House, former Cedy City residents resi-dents who now make their home in Mina Cuajone, Peru. Writing to make certain that they continue contin-ue to receive their weekly copy of the Iron County Record, Mr. and Mrs. House made the following observations about their experiences experi-ences in Peru: We are having a wonderful time down here, but do enjoy all the news of home we get in the Record. The country and people here are surely different than at home. We live right in the heart of the Andes at an elevation of about 12,000 feel. We can look out nearly any time during the day and see Llamas grazing the mountains, and women doing their washing in the streams and hanging clothes over the bushes to dry. The rainy season has started now and it will rain almost constantly con-stantly for three months, but I guess it's not as bad as all the snow you must be getting there now. And we have the consolation consola-tion that now is the season for the best fruits. The strawberries, watermelons, avodocados, plums, mongas, etc. are at their best nnw. We are quite lucky In that we can get ALMOST" anything in Peru that you can in the "states." The thing we miss most right now is the good old "when it rains it pours" salt. The salt here is absolutely Impossible to pour during the rainy season. We have to buy it in hunks and grind it ourselves, but It does have a good taste. The children seem to be very contented here. They learned Spanish so quickly they seldom speak English any more. The baby, which is just learning to talk, speaks half English and half Spanish. Will close for now and hope you all have a very Happy New Year. Sincerely, Wesley and Claudia House and family. |
