Show Hatcheries Rush legal' Plant As Opening Nears With the general trout season scheduled to open June 6, fisheries fish-eries employees at the twelve state hatcheries are working long hours each day planting legal sized fish into streams and still waters over the entire state. Heaviest spring planting so far has gone forward in southern waters where off-the-highway roads are open to earlier travel by the fish trucks. All streams, lakes and reservoirs accessible to travel by the trucks before opening open-ing day will receive a normal planting of legal and larger trout. Carrying capacity and fishing fish-ing pressure are the chief determining deter-mining factors governing the number of trout released into individual in-dividual waters. Fish and Game Department Director J. Perry Egan said of the fisheries program this year, "Prospects for a good fishing season sea-son are, bright. We expect to equal or exceed last year's plant of over two million legals and some fifteen million fry and fingerling into the waters of our state." He noted several reasons for an optimistic forecast. They included includ-ed a good average water table, near normal weather resulting In a minimum winter loss, improved improv-ed and .enlarged facilities at several sev-eral of the hatcheries, utilization of new fish foods, and the continued con-tinued hard work of the employees employ-ees of the division. Egan asked that fishermen respect re-spect the rights of landowners when afield during the season ahead. He said that much of the state's best trout water may be lost to the sportsmen unless such rights are respected by the yearly year-ly increasing numbers of license buyers. Planting of legals will continue throughout the season, which closes October 12 this year. Stocking of fry and fingerling trout in the high country will progress with the season, mostly by pack train. High waters in the Uintah and Escalante mountains opens June 27. Fishing hours are 5:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. dally. Legal size on trout is seven inches. Bag and possession limits are the same, seven pounds andor one fish, whichever is caught first, or 12 fish. |
