Show Leon Guymon Spends Leave Following Navy Recruit Training Leon Guymon, Fireman Apprentice, Ap-prentice, U. S. Navy, completed his 11 weeks of recruit training at the U. S. Naval Training Center, Cen-ter, San Diego, Calif., and arrived ar-rived home on May 7 to spend a 14-day leave with his father, Howard M.. Guymon, and his grandfather, John B. Topham, both of Paragonah. Upon completion comple-tion of his leave Fireman Guymon Guy-mon wilf report back to San Diego Die-go for further transfer to some ship In the fleet. Fireman Guymon enlisted in the U. S. Navy at the Navy recruiting re-cruiting station in Cedar City on Feb. 12, 1953 and left for the training center frm Salt Lake , City Feb. 13. Fireman GUymon Is working for the rate of boilerman. In this field some of his duties and responsibilities' re-sponsibilities' will be. Maintenance Mainten-ance and Repair: make boiler re-! pairs including DncKworK, casings, cas-ings, uptakes, and boiler fittings; operate motor-driven tube cleaners; clean-ers; assist in plugging, cutting "Ut, and replacing broken tubes; set safety valves, replace joints in steam lines and water ,line, riven and calk seams; renew furnace fur-nace brick work. Operations: operate op-erate manifolds and booster pumps; take charge of refueling operations in any section of the ship; light and extinguish boilers boil-ers and take charge of a steaming steam-ing fireroom. Damage Control; service as general repairman, in case of damage to ship, in any engineering repair party; operate all fire-fighting equipment and emergency fittings in fireroom; operate cross-connection system for the various firerooms; operate oper-ate rescue breathing apparatus. Tools and Blueprints: use hand tools and pneumatic and power-driven power-driven tools ordinarily used in boiler and fireroom repair; read and work from blueprints connected con-nected with boilers and fireroom machinery. Tests and Inspections: Inspec-tions: make all types tests and inspections of boilers and auxiliary auxil-iary equipment; test fuel oil, boiler water and ship's water; keep accurate check-off records of Inspections and more detailed records on machinery history, maintenance and repair. Through the skills and knowledge knowl-edge Fireman Guymon will at tain in this field while serving In the Navy he will be qualified for the following Jobs in civilian life; marine fireman, boiler shop repairman, stationary engineer, marine oiler and boilermaker. |
