Kan. Also winning recognition for the Cedar City school was Derald "DooDa" Evans, who placed sixth in the high jump at the national na-tional meet. The two athletes were taken to Kansas by Coach Dave Gates, and their performance more than justified jus-tified the faith the coach had in them. The junior college athletes ath-letes encountered very poor weather wea-ther for the meet, performing on a cold, rain-swept day that kept records below what the men had j been able to do in earlier meets. Chatterly topped the pole Ivaulters with a mark of 12 feet six inches, a full nine inches lower than his best record of the I year, but still bettering all other vaulters by six inches. He made his final vault in a driving rain it is understood. Because of weather conditions the high jump was taken at 6 feet one inch, considerably below be-low what Evans had done earlier this season. However, the winner of first place had cleared the bar at 6 feet five inches under better conditions Jhis year. i i |
