Show Rubinstein to Appear With Utah Symphony Orchestra Ever since Artur Rubinstein made his memorable visit here with the Utah Symphony orchestra orches-tra on Jan. 10, 1950, Utah music fans have been watching and waiting for his return. The brilliant artist, who has been hailed as the world's greatest great-est contemporary pianist, will come back to Utah for the next concert, Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Hundreds of people were unable un-able to get tickets for the last Rubinstein appearance with Maestro Abravanel and the symphony sym-phony and another over-flow crowd is practically certain for this return engagement. More than any other guest artist, Rubinstein Ru-binstein has won and held the popularity of the Utah music fans. He has been the biggest attraction in many years. For his Jan. 7 performance, Rubinstein will play the Brams Concerto No. 2 for piano and orchestra. or-chestra. Rubinstein is not only a great musician but also a master showman. Now approaching 60, he is king of his profession. Others Oth-ers may be regularly more flashy though few can dazzle so dependably, de-pendably, and none can match him for power and refinement. He plays loudly and very beautifully, beau-tifully, very softly and thoroughly thorough-ly clean, straight-forwardly, elegantly ele-gantly and with a care for both the amenities of musical discourse dis-course and the clear transmus-sion transmus-sion of musical thought. He is a master pianist and a master musician. mu-sician. If you haven't secured tickets, David S. Romney managing director, di-rector, suggests you do it early. They would make a wonderful Christmas gift. |
