Show Rams Drop Two Games on Northern Tour The Parowan high school basketball bas-ketball team returned Sunday afternoon af-ternoon from an invasion of Tooele Too-ele county where games were played with the Tooele and Grantsville high schools. Coach "Twist" Jones' Rams lost both games in heartbreaking fashion by one-point margins after holding hold-ing leads much of the time in both games. In the game with Tooele, which is Coach Jones' home town, the score was 38 to 37 in favor of the home town. The Rams took a 9 to 6 lead at the end of the initial period, but dropped behind one point, 1312 at half time, Parowan went out in lead again at the end of the third quarter 25 to 22 and held this lead up to within a minute or two of the end of the game when Tooele forged ahead to win by the one point margin. In the game at Grantsville on Saturday night which Grantsville won by a 30 to 29 score, the game was very close throughout. through-out. The Rams took a 7 to 6 lead at the end of the first period, per-iod, were behind 15 to 14 at half time but had forged into a 26 to 23 lead as the third quarter ended. But the home town team again rallied in the final minutes min-utes to take the game. Coach Jones was very well satisfied sat-isfied with the playing of his men in the two games, consider-jing consider-jing the long trip, the lay-over and being in very strange terri-tory terri-tory for all of the boys. John Benson and Melvin Mitchell led the scoring for the Rams in both ! games with other squad members mem-bers reported to have turned in good performances. This week end the Rams take on two of the teams from the southern division of Region Six, entertaining the Hurricane high team at Parowan on Friday night and traveling to St. George for a game with Dixie on Saturday night. Both of these teams are strong this year and tough battles bat-tles should be staged on both nights. |
