Show Emergency Order Filled by City Blood Donors Cedar City residents who furnished fur-nished blood in the recent drive conducted by the State Blood pro-CMTemTit pro-CMTemTit b'.oodmobile may well lift their chests in pride, accord-ing accord-ing to Whitney Jensen, county chairman. Within hours of the time the blood was taken it was on its way to Korea to assist some unfortunate soldier, he said. In the drive held in Cedar City Dec. 4, 167 pints of blood were collected and readied for processing process-ing through the efforts of the supporters of the drive, Mr. Jensen Jen-sen said. ' The importance of this blood was stressed to Cedar City residents resi-dents during this drive when the first 85 pints collected were rushed rush-ed to a bus that had been held 15 minutes off its schedule in order or-der to make a delivery in Salt Lake City. These 85 pints, it is understood, were taken from the bus, transferred to an airplane and then sent directly to Korea. This blood, an emergency order, or-der, was never stopped for pro-1 cessine but sent directly, Actually Actual-ly within hours, to the Korean1 front where it is so badly needed. The remaining blood procured in the Cedar Citv drive was tak en bv the bloodmobilp unit to Salt Lake City where it will be processed. Through this pvstem of collection adopted throughout the national, donated blood is used all over the world, where-ever where-ever it i needed. The greater portion will travel to Korea while a smaller portion is returned to the area of collection where it can be had upon call. Mr. Jensen states that thp dHve was most successful and that through the cooperation of the Escalante hotel and its facilities and the snlendid functioning of the canteen bv the Cedar Citv Beta Sitrma Phi was the mobile unit able to function so effective. iy. The bloodmobile will return to Cedar City on its route through the state in approximately four months, Mr. Jensen stated. |
