The battle was so tough that breaks of the gome figured In every score. A safety following two long penalties against the Flyers started the scoring. A stolen ball play put the visitors back tn the lead, only to see the Broncos sew up the game with a punt return for a score. Dixie rang up thirteen first downs to five,, for the Broncos, but could not muster a scoring punch when inside the ten yard line, missing two such opportunities. The two goal-line goal-line stands were the Broncos best display of strength in the entire game. Early In the first quarter of play there were a couple of bad breaks for both sides when the Broncos recovered a fumble on Dixie's two yard line only to lose it again on the next play by a fumble. Later when the Flyers were kicking out from their own goal Bill Nlckell, halfback, caught the Flyers behind miimi mil i. Jil 119 ;' I'j jjijii.Ljjaji 'W '"V it,, f A-: : w '! J, . The Dlxleltes then took to the air In an attempt either for a first down or a touchdown, but they were stopped with little gain and the ball changed hands, going to the Broncos. The BAC completed only one play when the gun sounded. Fumbles were plentiful all during the game and cost both teams many ma-ny opportunities to score. Passing was one of the Broncos weaknesses although they made more yardage through the air than the Flyers. Russ Nellson and Oarr Stucki of Dixie made some beautiful runs through the line and around the ends as did Bob Roberts and Woodbury, Wood-bury, for the Broncos. Jerry Qod-dard, Qod-dard, Drew Halght, Jerry Stanton, and Charlie Woodbury, were probably prob-ably the Broncos' outstanding linemen, line-men, while Norman Hafen was brilliant bril-liant for the visitors. |
