Show Senior Scout Program1 Gets Underway The senior scout program got under way in Cedar City this' week with three scout groups meeting !n the three ward buildings underjible leadership, and with evidence of keen Interest on the part of the boys. The Sea Scouts uieet each Wednesday Wed-nesday night in the second ward recreation hall with Skipper Weber and First Mate Jim Middleton directing dir-ecting the activities ol this group. Thi'y have great plans ahead, including in-cluding the procurement of a real launch of their own, trips to Utah Lake, etc., a program to stir the circulation of any red-blooded teenage teen-age boy. But they have to be physically physi-cally fit to be Sea Scouts! Their program is a rugged one. In the Third ward, Theron Ash-croft, Ash-croft, aided bv Nnrtnn .Tumoo ie directing the activities of the Explorer Ex-plorer (Land) Scouts. Theron plans to have the boys build their necessary neces-sary outdoor equipment, then practically prac-tically move out-of-doors. To sit In on one of these meetings makes an adult wish he were a boy of teenage teen-age again In order to qualify for the fine trips they have planned. The Explorers began their meeting with a Treasure Hunt. The first directions were in code, and Hie boys had to scratch their heads for a half-hour or so to dope It out. From then on there was a line of boys streaking out of the ward building headed for their first stop. The end of the line took them to the turkey plant w-here they were met by Theron, and enjoyed a "weenie "wee-nie roast." In the First Ward Recreation hall the Air' Scouts met under the direction of Squadron Leader George Chambers, assisted by regional scouter Ted Oubler and Woodrow Dennett. The boys got organization minded right away and nppointed their Squadron Pilot Romi-r Scott; scribe Kent Lee. Chairman were elected as follows: Airport (program) (pro-gram) Chairman. Lorain J. Chamberlain; Cham-berlain; Fair Weather Chairman (social) Milton Lunt! Task mm. I mlttee Chairman . (civic projects, recruiting) Gary Macfarlane; Field Committee Chairman (Hikes, outdoor out-door events, etc.) Deloy Prlsbrev. The boys also organized into two flights, with. Flight Pilots and Assistant As-sistant Flight Pilots. They played games for a short while and wound up the evening by seeing two films shown them by Woodrow Dennett, both very Instructive concerning the operation and mechanics of flying a plane. Present also was Jack Scott, troop committeeman for the Air Scouts. That brings up jan Important point. You fathers! 'it's up to you to see that this program suceeds. Unless we have troop committeemen committee-men Right Now to support these Scout Leaders, face the facts: This program is going to fail before It gets a good start. We mean this! If you are interested in these boys (and who shouldn't be) It Is positively pos-itively necessary that you get in touch with these leaders right now, and volunteer your whole-hearted support of them In their efforts. They can't do it alone This Is an urgent ur-gent appeal. Please don't put it off. Get In touch with any of the scout leaders, or call Norton James Senior Scout Commissioner. Do It now. |
