Show Former Cedar Man's Article Printed in Musicians Magazine The following article introducing introduc-ing Bruce Benward, son of Mrs. Maude Benward. Cedar City, was published in The Southwestern Musician, a monthly magazine featuring articles by prominent musicians throughout the ynited States. Mr. Benward was the author au-thor of a story entitled "Peace in our Music Department" which was accompanied by the introductory intro-ductory information about the author. He is profesor of Theory, University of Arkansas, Fayette-ville, Fayette-ville, Arkansas. Mr. Benward who is a relative newcomer to the ranks of Southwestern South-western musicians, is assistant professor of Theory and Composition Composi-tion at the University of Arkansas. Arkan-sas. He holds the BM and MM degrees from Indiana University and is a candidate for the Ph. D. degree in Theory and Composition Composi-tion from the Eastman School of Music. Prior to his present work at the university of Arkansas he was a member of the music department de-partment at the University of Idaho and bassoonist in the Spokane Spo-kane Philharmonic orchestra. Besides many contributions to the field of pure theory, Mr. Benward Ben-ward is the composer of many original works both for orchestra and piano. Although not a prolific proli-fic composer he Is a member of the Los Angeles Musicians union un-ion and has composed background back-ground music for serious drama. At the University of Arkansas Mr. Benward has been instrumental instrumen-tal in correlating music into a new program of General Education. Educa-tion. In the field of pedagogy he has produced significant results in bringing into closer harmony and relationship the fields of applied music and academic music. |
