Show Power Co. to Install New Generators Two large dlesel electric power generating units will be installed at the Cedar City diesel electric plant on the Airport highway by the Southern Utah Power company com-pany within the next month, according ac-cording to George Grlmshaw, power company general superintendent. superin-tendent. The new generators, when in operation will increase the company's power output by 25 per cent, and are capable of producing 1,000 horse power or 800 kilowatts of electrls energy. The new units, order last year when the company. was told by the Public Service Commission to increase its power output, were originally slated for delivery In May and June, but delivery was held up approximately three months due to strikes and vacations vaca-tions at the eastern dlesel manufacturing manu-facturing plant producing the machinery. One diesel unit is now being Installed at the plant, while the other is expected to arrive In Cedar City in the very near future. fu-ture. It was shipped from Buffalo, Buf-falo, New York, August 10. The new additions will be (Contlnutd on Bock Fcr?) To Install Generators (Continued from Page one) used at present only for peak operations, carrjing additional loads during the ncavy irrigation irriga-tion season, but it will probably be pressed into constant use next summer during da light hours. The Cedar City area is consuming consum-ing additional power at such a rapid rate, that the jxwer company com-pany finds it difficult to secure additional generating equipment fast enough to match the increased increas-ed demand for electricity. The two units manufactured by t ho Worthington Pump and Machinery Company, plus new transformers, etc., will cost the power company a total of $2(0,-000 $2(0,-000 when completely installed. With the new machinery installed, in-stalled, the Cedar City plant alone, operating at only 75 per cent of capacity, will be able to furnish all of Cedar City, Cedar valley and the immediate area, with all power consumed during dur-ing the heaviest seasonal load. The rapid growth of the southern south-ern Utah area is responsible for the curtailed usage recently. The power company regrets to have been forced to put into operation opera-tion a curtailment program undo; un-do; the direction of the Public Service Commission, but the company feels that it has played a major role In southern Utah's industrial and agricultural development. |
