Show County Draft Sign-up Posts Listed by Chief According to Warren Bulloch, Iron county selective service chief, Cedar City youths of draft age will register In the foyer of the local Utah National Guard armory and all other county residents res-idents affected will sign up at the community post office through which they receive their mail. Tentative arrangement calls for the county selective service ser-vice board to be located in the Christensen building in Cedar City, Mr. Bulloch added. The Iron county board has had no official Instructions from either eith-er General J. Wallace West, state director, or Lt. Col. Oscar W. Gray, assistant director. However, How-ever, the unit has conferred with Ed Ryan, field officer, who has supplied the draft organization with some unofficial procedure plans. Veterans between 18 and 25 must register, but they will be deferred if they served 19 days or more on active duty In the armed forces between December 7, 1941, and August 14, 1945, or one year between September 16, 1910, and June 24, 1918. Also exempt are certain classes of civil servants including state department, geodetic survey and public health service employees. National guardsmen who give "satisfactory service" obtain draft deferment under the selective service act. The guard intends to adhere to early commitments of providing 48 armory drills a year and requiring attendance at the anuual two-week summer encampments. en-campments. A guard commanding command-ing officer may drop an enlisted enlist-ed member for a single unexcus- ed absence, thereby making him eligible for the draft. Although not definitely Iron county registration dates, the sign up of different age groups must be completed by the following follow-ing dates: Persons born in 1922, after Aug. 30, by August 30. Persons born in 1923, by September Sep-tember 1. Persons born in 1924, by September Sep-tember 3. Persons born in 1925, by Sep-tember Sep-tember 7. Persons born in 1926, by September Sep-tember 9. Persons born in 1927, by September Sep-tember 11. Persons born in 1928, by Sep. tember 14. Persons born in 1929, by Sep. tember 16. Persons born in 1930, before September 19, by September 18. Persons born on or after September Sep-tember 19, 1930, will be register. ed on the day they attain 18 years of age within five days thereafter. Married men, draft officials con-eluded, con-eluded, are not expected to be inducted, in-ducted, regardless of their mar-riage mar-riage date, with or without children. |
