Show Civic Initiative Aids BfiC Expansion The drive and initiative of the people of Southern Utah has been shown nowhere better than in the recent cam-paicn cam-paicn to expand the service of the Branch Agricultural College. Educators and civic leaders in this county joined with those in other neighboring counties in this end of the state to bring to the attention of the Utah State Agricultural Agricul-tural College Board of Trustees the need for more and better teachers for the area, and of training our own people peo-ple to serve our own needs. , . This campaign is now bearing fruit in the form oi a whole new curriculum at the BAC, aimed to increase the value of the college to its patrons. . Over 150 credit hours in upper division classes are being offered in addition to the former two-year program. Many people in this area will now have an opportunity to continue con-tinue their education beyond the two years previously available in this vicinity, and without having to leave Southern Utah. Evening or late afternoon classes or perhaps Saturday Satur-day sessions are being considered by college officials, and will be opened up if enough professional and business people make application for them. Such a program would make it possible for many uncertified teachers whose services ser-vices are required through the school year to complete requirements for a bachelor's degree. In addition to the newly expanded program in elementary elemen-tary education leading to the bachelor's degree, approximately approxim-ately 150 credit hours in courses on the third year level are being offered beginning September 14th this year. With this offering, it is possible for those who teach in high schools, or who plan to do so, to pursue training at BAC in their major fields. This is particularly true for those who plan to train for teaching in Biological Science, Social Science, English and Speech, Agronomy, Agricultural Agricul-tural Economics, Animal Husbandry and Home Economics. Econom-ics. Many courses are also offered In the Division of Commerce, Com-merce, Engineering, Forestry and Industrial and Vocational Vocation-al Education. , , A , The Board of Trustees recognized a need and acted upon up-on it. When further expansion is necessary, these men and women may be expected to act for the best interest of the people. |
