Show Off-Highway Study Planned On Forest A complete study will be done to determine Off-Highway Vehicle use on the Dixie National Forest. Hugh C. Thompson, Forest Supervisor, said the study is necessary to provide proper management of Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV's) on the National Forest System lands and because of the growing popularity of OHV's. Thompson indicated that use on the Dixie National Forest will generally be open to OHV travel unless there is substantial resource degradation that would warrant restrictions in any particular area. "The public's recommendations are very important at this time," Thompson said, "to give us the data we need to make the proper decisions." An Open House is scheduled for April 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Forest Headquarters, 82 N. 100 E. in Cedar City. The public is encouraged to attend and become j involved in the planning process. j Public comments will be accepted at that time or can be sent to the Forest Supervisor until April 15. The Forest is preparing an OHV Action Plan that will manage OHV's on the Forest for three to five years to be implemented next fall before hunting season. At that time a new Forest OHV Travel Map will be available to the public. Those not able to attend the Open House may visit any Ranger District Offices in St. George, Cedar City, j Panguitch, Escalante or Teasdale, j or may send comments to: Forest Supervisor, Dixie National Forest, 82 N. 100 E., Cedar City, UT. 84720. |
