Show Escalante Events By Marilyn Jackson Spring sprung back to winter, leaving deep snow and ice again. To those who are moisture-minded, it ' may be of interest to note that with .82 inches of moisture in one storm and .79 inches in Sunday's storm along with additional received during the month, we have received more than 1.62 inches altogether in March. In the 1985-86 water year which runs from October to October, we received 8.83 inches. In only six months of this current water year, we have already received 6.31 inches. in-ches. Due to the storm, the sawmill crews have been working intermittently. in-termittently. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hyatt took advantage of the time off and visited relatives in Parowan and Paragonah. And if there wasn't enough water, a pipe broke at the Kazan Clinic cancelling medical appointments on Monday. The storm also hampered James Mclnelly and son Vern Mclnelly who have been shingling the Ernie Snyder home. With Sunday's storm several meetings were postponed including the single adult fireside. The New Horizon Club met for their monthly meeting and are doing a membership mem-bership drive. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers also met this week with a lesson about historical markers. They will re-establish the school marker as soon as weather permits. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jordan returned from a trip to Mesquite. Carlyle Shurtz came from Salt Lake City for the weekend and took father, Beryle Shurtz, back for medical checkups. Dixie Lyman took daughter, Misty, out-of-town this week for dental appointments. Guy Leming is home after undergoing un-dergoing laser eye surgery. Zella Alvey accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Leming north where she visited family members. Beth Burr underwent surgery in Salt Lake City and Walt Leibenguth is doing well after undergoing open heart surgery there. Great-grandson, Great-grandson, Shane Shakespear, son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Shakespear has his arm in a cast after a fall. Blake Robinson was also out-of-town for medical appointments on his way to the horse races. Carol Simons and Jim Smith are among teachers spending this week in Phoenix on the teacher exchange program. The high school band traveled to Salt Lake City to perform at the State Capitol in observance of National Music in Our Schools month. More details when they return. Diane Houston, dietian for Garfield Gar-field Memorial, spoke to the senior citizens on nutrition this week. She emphasized menus for diabetics and on special diets. Deon Alvey accompanied others ' in the program to Salt Lake City to procure a new mini-bus for the Panguitch area senior citizens. County Commissioner Louise Liston accompanied . government officials on a flight over the new carbon dioxide project. They flew over it several times so members could actually see the minute area involved, and were assured that it will not affect the many, many acres there. Mr. and Mrs. Clem Griffin were weekend visitors, as was Michelle Simons who came from Dixie College for the weekend. Karen Fink has graduated from her schooling at Dixie College and returned home where she has prospective employment at the new Circle D Restaurant which plans to open April 11. Reed Munson and members of his construction crew returned from Heber City where they did some work for aunt, Paloma Nelson. They have been in Boulder helping Mr. and Mrs. Pole Griffin complete an ice cream shop and helped Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jackson dig up their lot. Barbara Munson has a friend here from England. They have toured Southern California taking in the sights at Disneyland and surrounding surroun-ding areas before returning to attend at-tend LDS General Conference. Due to the conference, Fast Sunday will be next Sunday. Rolain Trujillo spent the week in Richfield renonvating her home there. The Danny Spencers returned from an exciting trip to Washington D.C. where they attended telephone meetings. The airplane sat on the Las Vegas runway three hours before the flight, the elevator they were riding on became stuck and the hotel they stayed at caught fire, which made the trip very exciting. Members of the Hode Alvey family returned to Escalante to clean the family lot and prepare it for sale. Among those here were Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Alvey, Mr. and Mrs. Venice Hansen and Mr. and Mrs. Blair Ftazer. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Vance flew from Texas for a weekend visit at the Neal Liston home, but cut the stay short to return before the storm. Anne Spencer and daughter, Helayne Spencer, travelled to Arizona to spend several days with husband and father, Karl Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. Bart Carter have a new daughter born Sunday, March 22. The 8 pound, 14 ounce girl will be named Ashley. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Delane Griffin and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Carter. Great-grandparents Great-grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Philo Carter and Mary Porter. The Utah Opera will be performing per-forming at the High School March 31st at 10 a.m. Plan to be there. |
