Peterson Teacher Hall Of Fame i ifas Seven Inductees Seven longtime employees and teachers have been inducted into the "Garfield County School District Hall of Fame" and presented with framed letters of appreciation by the school board and superin-, superin-, "tendent. i Teachers with 30 years of services and those teachers with 25 or more years of service who have indicated plans to retire in this school year were honored. Photographs of Hall of Fame honorees will be displayed in the Garfield School District board room. ! Among those honored were Kirk I Moore who began his teaching career in the district in 1957 by teaching drivers education at all ; three county high schools. In 1958 he ; was assigned to teach social studies at Panguitch High School and has ; had the yearbook assignment since i 1965. In addition he became the school's media coordinator in 1972. He continued teaching drivers ed at all three county schools through 1978 after school and on Saturdays. Since then he has taught drivers ed at PHS only. He is married to the former LaVenda Reid. They are parents of four children, one deceased, and grandparents of 10. Clarence Twitchell began his career with Garfield County School District as custodian at Antimony Elementary July 1, 1956 where he has served for the past 31 years. Since August of 1963, he has also driven the school bus. He plans to retire in July. He has also been a successful farmer. He is married to the former Mona Rae Mclnelly. They are parents of six sons and two daughters and have eight grandchildren. grand-children. Jack Soper has been a teacher at Panguitch High School for 30 years, teaching mainly in the vocational fields. He has Served as advisor to the Future Farmers of America and conducted a summer program each year. He holds a bachelor of science degree and masters degree from Utah State University. He has been president of the Garfield Teachers Association and president of the Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association. He and his wife, the former MarLynn Luke, are parents of one daughter and three sons and they have seven grandchildren. Hazel Hatch is a native of Shawnee, Okla. She attended Brigham Young University for three years, married, and while living in Panguitch, attended Southern Utah State College where she received her degree. She has taught in Garfield School District since 1960 at Panguitch Elementary where she has been a first grade teacher since 1973. She and her husband Bill Hatch are parents of two daughters and one son and have eight grandchildren. grand-children. Hall of Fame nominee Leland Riggs was born in Panguitch and reared in Hatch. He graduated from Panguitch High School, Dixie College and, Utah State University. He spent two years in the U.S. Army. Ar-my. He taught in Hatch as principal and teacher for four years before the Hatch school was closed. He then began working at Panguitch Elementary as media coordinator, teacher, Chapter 1 director, and assistant principal for the past 26 yers. He has also served as a bus driver for several years. Active in civic and church affairs, he and his wife Adell are parents of six . children, one deceased, and several grandchildren. A Panguitch native, Richard Bruce Owens attended grade and high school in Panguitch, graduated from Utah State University and taught at Panguitch Elementary for three years before becoming principal at that school in 1959. He is married to the former Verna Holman. They have seven children, one deceased, and 23 grandchildren. Owens served in the military and has held many positions in the LDS Church. Donna Y. Peterson, a 33-year veteran of Panguitch High School, has been an active teacher leader and an excellent teacher in her field of business subjects. She started her teaching career with physical education and English, but soon moved into the business education field where she has taught for the past 30 years. During the 1980-81 school years, she served as president of the Utah Education Association, and spent that year living in Salt Lake City. She also served on the board of directors of the National Education Association for four years and has served 11 years on the UEA Board of Trustees.
