Show I -IMI Student Injured In 90-Foot Fall j - From Cliff In Calf Creek Recreation Area i ESCALANTE A 27-year-old Utah State University student is in critical condition in the intensive , k care unit at LDS Hospital in Salt f Lake City following a 90-foot fall from a ledge near the campground i i i I; - I " V ; s r ' , Kevin Moore at Calf Creek Recreation Area Monday morning. Jamie Eddins, a native of Idaho, left his USU student tour group for a solo hike and the exact time of his fall is unknown. He apparently was climbing to reach a Moqui cave when he fell. He was discovered by hiking companion who covered him and drove 22 miles to Escalante for an ambulance. The ambulance crew, notified at 11:49 a.m., arrived on the scene at 12:15 p.m. Emergency Medical Technicians on duty were Tracy Dallison, Leslie Davis and Phil Dendel. They stabilized Eddins at the scene and then placed him in the ambulance for the 93-mile trip to Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch. The ambulance stopped briefly at Cannonville Clinic for more emergency supplies and stopping enroute to take on board Nurse Practitioner Becky Roberts who assisted with in-ambulance care. The ambulance arrived at the hospital at 2:09 p.m. where the victim was stabilized before tran sport to Panguitch Airport where a Life Flight plane was waiting to transport the victim to a Salt Lake City hospital. According to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office, there was no investigation in-vestigation of the accident, but the time and disposition were noted. |
