' -- !i; ( 1 , j William Niebel Niebles Honored By Garfield Schools William "Uncle Bill" Niebel and his wife Elnora Niebel were honored recently by the Garfield County Board of Education at their recent board meeting. The board presented a plaque of appreciation to Niebel for donations the Niebels had made of photographic equipment and lapidary equipment to Panguitch High School and Garfield School District. Niebel was also recognized for his many years of service to Garfield . County students in voluntarily teaching gem and mineral classes since 1983. He is considered an . expert ki the lapidary field and in rockhounding and has been largely responsible for gem and mineral shows in the Panguitch area and for raising money for student scholarships. A native of California, he has spent many yeaia traveling and working in various parts of the world. At the outset of World War II he was in the Merchant Marines, then worked in the Richmond, Calif, shipyards for the remainder of the war. He worked for many years as a professional photographer. The Niebels spent 14 years in Alaska and have been residents of Panguitch for the past 10 years. They moved to Panguitch to be near their son, Otho "Buck" Bulkley and his wife and family. The Niebels have another son in Orem and two daughters and a son in California. They have numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Niebel is currently serving as Utah State director of the Rocky Mountain Federation of Gem and Mineral Society and the Color Country Rockhounds, a youth organization at Panguitch High School. |
