I r . -' , j i r n k . - 'II s - 1 : - I UfvJ " - 4 I i - I J'i., " .... rTT LJ I .. . ... i ' i i ' i . . , - i l : ' ' . ! . , , The Panguitch High School Bobettes Drill Team proudly pose with their first-ever spoils in winning first place over-all drill team competition at Bobettes Win State Drill Team Title Sixty cars (full of people), two Utah Highway Patrol cars, two Panguitch City Police cars, a Garfield County Sheriff's car and the Panguitch City Fire Truck, with lights flashing and sirens howling, escorted the All-State Drill Team Champions on the last 10-mile leg home from the first ever first place victory in this competition, for the Panguitch High School Bobettes. The new champions were escorted to the Panguitch High School gym, festooned with streamers and balloons in their honor. An impromptu im-promptu dance was organized, but most of the girls were crying with happiness and just too tired to do much more than bask in the glory of being first for Panguitch High School. The Bobettes won first place in the prop division, with a lot of credit going to Carl Johnson, husband of one of the advisors, Diane Johnson, without whom, girls said, "We couldn't have done it!" They also captured- first place in the novelty division with a "belly dnce" routine with authentic "belly dance" music. The girls then won third place in the military division. The idea for this year's props was born in a think-tank session with the two advisors, Johnson and Marlene Miller. Milelr said that after being state, Saturday, March 21 at Spanish Fork. The team came home amid lights, sirens, and many happy fans. "edged" last week in region, it was "a particularly sweet experience to prove that our girls are champions." Miller said that for the past two years the Bobettes have spent over $1,000 each year to have the numbers num-bers choreographed. This year, seven of the Bobettes, Jolyn Bar-nhurst, Bar-nhurst, Lucinea Josie, Annette Hatch, Monica Miller, Laurel Matthew, Lisa Henrie, and Vicky Knighton did the choreography for the prize winning routines. At state competition, Parowan placed second behind Panguitch after a disappointing fifth at Region. Beaver won third overall, while the Brycettes of Bryce Valley finished fourth. The advisors, the other Panguitch students, teachers, parents and friends were unbridled in their enthusiasm for this special victory, said Miller. Bobette team members are Jolyn Barnhurst, Leslie Barnhurst, Stephanie Black, Sharlene Crosby, Ami Foy, Alisha Hatch, Annette Hatch, Missy Hatch, Lisa Henrie, Lucinda Josie, Vicky Knighton, Ronda LeFevre, Cheryl Lowe, Laurel Matthews, Mamie Miller, Monica Miller, Sheree Nowers, Roshell Proctor, Mala Reynolds! and Cherish Tebbs. |
